A Legacy of Possibility
In 1960, Jimmy and Edie Frankel answered a call from a small group of parents who dreamed of a better future for their children with hearing loss. Together, they helped establish the Lexington Deaf Oral School—the beginning of what would become The Hearing & Speech Center.
Both Jimmy and Edie understood firsthand the challenges of living with hearing loss. Through their vision, leadership, and determination, they rallied community support, secured a home for the school, established its Board of Directors, and helped open its doors to six students.
More than six decades later, their legacy lives on.
The Frankel Hall of Fame honors individuals, organizations, and groups whose achievements inspire others and demonstrate what is possible when opportunity, support, and determination come together. Each honoree reflects the spirit of Jimmy and Edie Frankel: believing in possibility, creating opportunity, and helping others discover their own potential.
